Drayton South coal mine
Report summary
Drayton South is a brownfield extension open cut coal project, located south of the existing Drayton coal mine in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. Anglo American's application was denied by the NSW Planning & Assessment commission in November 2015. In September 2016, the NSW Department of Planning re-submitted the Drayton South project to the PAC yet again, recommending approval, however it was denied for the final time in February 2017. In May 2017, Anglo American announced an agreement to sell its 88.17% interest in the Drayton closed mine and Drayton South project to Malabar Coal. The deal was finalised in February 2018. Please refer to the Maxwell asset report for Malabar's planned underground project that will utilise the existing Drayton infrastructure.
