Germany’s Coal Commission: the challenge of setting the end date
Report summary
On 1 November 2018, the Commission on Growth, Structural Change and Employment (the coal exit commission) issued its first interim report with policy recommendations for the three remaining lignite regions. The commission still has the daunting task to propose an end date for coal in Germany considering the importance of the lignite industry in the economy of these three regions. The commission will issue its final reports by the end of the year.
