Global thermal coal short-term outlook October 2019: will winter spur price recovery?
Report summary
Coal markets continue to face significant headwinds going into winter. Although we believe that most of the price falls are behind us, the market will struggle to trade meaningfully higher in the near term. Fears over global growth prospects, the ongoing US-China trade tensions, low gas prices and high inventories will help keep pressure on coal prices in the coming period. We believe that the market will need a significantly colder-than-average winter in order to see a stock draw and price recovery.
