Intelligent coal mining: what does it mean for China?

Intelligent coal mining is becoming an increasingly popular topic in China. To improve efficiency and safety levels, the central government published guidelines last year to adopt intelligent mining at all the country’s coal mines by 2035. Various local governments responded and significant progress was made in 2020. Although intelligent mines are safer, cheaper and more efficient to operate, challenges to adoption remain, centered around capital and human resources investment requirements.
