As the weak coal market carries over into Q2, we detect greater changes to production and domestic coal deliveries. Suppliers are responding to ever-lower coal-fired generation in the face of cheap, abundant gas and mild temperatures eroding coal demand. A new set of recently published power sector regulations could also have a chilling impact on future coal use depending on how litigation ultimately plays out.
