Commodity Market Report
North America coal short-term outlook February 2024
Report summary
Coal-fired generation dropped off in February as a result of milder temperatures and will continue to decline through the shoulder months. In addition, abundant cheap natural gas continues to oversupply the market pushing out more and more coal. The gap between apparent production capacity and delivered coal widens. In the longer term, producers will trim excess capacity to suit the shrinking market.
