Henry Hub natural gas prices will remain elevated through the end of this winter. The increase in natural gas prices will result in improved coal generation in the winter of 2018/2019. However, the slow downward trend in coal generation will continue for the remainder of 2019. Seaborne thermal coal prices have trended lower over the last two months. Newcastle 6000kcal was US$112.5/t on 1 October. Since then prices decreased to US$97.5/t. China import restrictions and uncertainty around the scope and length of such restrictions pushed buyers to the sidelines as they wait for more clarity in the new year.
