Commodity Market Report
North America short-term outlook November 2022
Report summary
The supply outlook for 2022 and 2023 was revised upwards reflecting a sustained uptick in deliveries towards the end of the year. Increased supply, paired with muted coal-fired generation in the shoulder season, gave utilities room to replenish their stockpiles for three consecutive months heading into winter. Starting in December, the trend will reverse with increased coal dispatch and modest stockpile withdrawals. Buyer appetite remains strong both in the domestic market and in Europe for US coals.
