Report summary
Singapore was abuzz this October as it hosted the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) and Gastech 2015. At the Energy Week, leading policy thinkers and key market players gathered to discuss the potential for Singapore to develop a regional natural gas market hub. With that view, the country announced plans to develop a secondary natural gas trading market and full electricity retail market competition by the second half of 2018. Uncertainty emerged as a key theme at Gastech 2015, as both buyers and sellers came to terms with a sustained lower spot LNG price. Several deals were announced in the week - PTT declared an agreement to import 1 mmtpa of LNG from PETRONAS, although details remained to be finalised. Pavilion Energy also announced a 10-year deal with Gazprom to buy LNG and an MOU with Huadian to sell LNG from 2020 onwards.
