Sherritt International, the largest thermal coal producer in Canada, announced in December that it will divest its coal and potash businesses. This transaction allows Sherritt to pay down debt and focus on its core businesses in base metals and transforms Westmoreland into the leading mine-mouth coal producer in North America.
