Any government pursuing ambitious emissions reduction goals must maintain a broad and robust energy policy framework. To underline its priorities and in advance of a new policy paper, the UK government has announced a 10-point plan of key measures to support its progress to net-zero emissions. But anyone expecting a raft of new measures in the 10-point plan will be disappointed. While the scope is wide-ranging – promoting the decarbonisation of power, transport, industry and the built environment – substantial parts of the content were already known, represent previous committed funding or are logical extensions of current trends. Is there anything new and tangible in the plan or is it’s publication more about positioning the UK as a leader in decarbonisation? We think the timing of this announcement could be as important as its content. What score can we give the government’s 10-point plan?"
