Israel energy markets long-term outlook 2020: new gas production boosts fortunes
Report summary
The discovery of large volumes of indigenous gas has promoted a focus on energy self sufficiency and a reduction in Israel’s relatively high air pollution levels. A policy of coal fired power plant closure using imported coal has since been accelerated from 2030 to 2025. Gas is at the forefront of the country’s new power policy, now expected to supply 85% of the country’s power needs by 2030. However, the government also has ambitious renewable energy targets; 17% of power from renewable energy by 2030 with an interim goal of 10% in 2020.
