Commodity Market Report
Pakistan energy markets long-term outlook 2016
Report summary
Pakistan has been struggling with an energy crisis for several years, brought on by years of poor governance and planning. Upon coming into power in 2013, the PML-N government set out a few immediate priorities to alleviate the energy shortages. Part of this saw Pakistan commence LNG imports in March 2015. Key themes in this update: LNG brings relief to the energy shortage situation. Chinese investment will play an increasing role in Pakistan's energy sector development. Environmental considerations take a back-seat as coal projects begin. Domestic stability is improving but governance concerns still weigh heavy.
