In 2019, the global LNG markets were over-supplied, and Europe's LNG imports grew by 60% compared to 2018. The European market pulled all the available levers to accommodate. Low gas prices encouraged some demand response in the power sector, and high summer-winter price differentials gave an incentive for strong injections. On the supply side, Russia opted for a market share strategy, and exports remained relatively flat year-on-year. In turn, imports from Algeria and Norway were squeezed, down on 2018 by 36% and 3%, respectively, for a combined 15 bcm drop.
