Commodity Market Report
Global short-term LNG demand tracker (Q4 2023)
Report summary
Global LNG demand has been muted in H2 2023. Inventories in key Asian markets were high from the beginning of this year – which depleted somehow in hot summer in Asia and Europe. However, European inventories were almost full in early October against the deadline to get at least 90 percent on first November. Mild start to the winter in both pacific and Atlantic basins could not stimulate heating demand. Therefore, we are observing a bearish demand outlook for Q4 2023. Having said that, the story is not finished for 2023. Some cold snaps are expected in late December and early January in China and Europe. Besides, price sensitive buyers in Asia - specifically Thailand, India and Bangladesh- have been active in market to procure spot cargoes this winter.
