Global short-term LNG supply tracker (Q4 2020)
Report summary
Winter LNG production has recovered as quickly as it dropped this summer. However disruptions have intensified too and weigh on output. In this update, we review: - From summer lows to winter highs: around 15 Mt of LNG was curtailed over summer due to low prices. As the market recovered into winter, facilities bounced back to full production in no time. - From under-utilisation to disruptions: however not all facilities thrive this winter. An unprecedented level of unplanned downtime will spill over 2021. - From price response to a more balanced market: global LNG supply growth looks strong in 2021 (with +17 Mt compared to 2020). However much of the year-on-year growth is “artificial” as it is a result of existing trains not running in 2020. Only three trains will start in 2021.
