North America gas weekly update: A very quiet Atlantic Basin storm season so far
Report summary
Despite an above-average Atlantic Basin storm season initially forecast, only three named systems have formed so far. None have traversed towards Gulf Coast to cause gas market impacts. However, the climatological peak of storm season is soon approaching. With offshore GoM production significantly reduced in recent years, a major landfall on the Gulf Coast would have a larger demand-side impact. Ship traffic to LNG berths would be disrupted while above ground storage tanks fill up. Storm related power issues and rain would dampen both gas burns and industrial levels. In the weeks ahead the North America gas market asks: • Can US gas production ramp up even higher? • What impact will the annual maintenance at Cove Point LNG have? • Will potential storm formation result in any gas market impacts?
