The Ennore regas terminal is the first of many proposed terminals on India's east coast to begin construction. Conceptualized for several years, the terminal was planned to supply LNG to the power plants, refineries, fertiliser and small industrial users in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Indian Oil (IOC) took over as the sole project developer in 2010. After receiving the necessary land and environmental approvals, IOCs board approved the project to proceed in November 2014.
