LNG shipping demand will continue to grow at a steady rate, with 600 additional ships above the existing orderbook required by 2040. The bulk of the existing newbuild orders will be delivered to under-construction projects in Russia, US, and Africa – all which are expected to begin commercial operations before 2024. LNG supply projects that take FID within the next 36 months, will bolster new orders into the late 2020s. However, with market space for new LNG supply projects limited, owners and investors will need to time their orders carefully to ensure the global LNG fleet does not grow faster than demand for them.
