LNG from North America’s west coast: what are the growth prospects?
Report summary
Efforts to develop LNG capacity on North America’s west coast are entering a new phase, with different geographies and design concepts coming into play. More capacity is being proposed in west Mexico linked to low-cost Permian gas. In Canada, the trend is towards use of modular construction and FLNG to lower plant costs, and electric-drive trains powered by zero-carbon hydro electricity to lower emissions. In Alaska, project developers are proposing new commercial structures and technological solutions to unlock North Slope gas. The picture looks very different from a few years ago when the focus was mainly on conventional large-scale land-based developments in northern British Columbia and northwest United States.
