In June 2005, Excelerate Energy submitted an application to the Maritime Administration for a Deepwater Port terminal located 13 miles offshore Massachusetts Bay. After receiving approval for the project in February 2007, Excelerate commenced construction in May 2007. Construction at the facility was completed in December 2007 and preliminary commissioning works were conducted in February 2008 before the facility took its first cargo in May 2008.
