Since the mid-1980s, a number of LNG projects have been proposed in Venezuela. However, despite the country's large gas reserves and experience in the oil and gas business, none of these plans have come to fruition. The current proposal originated in 2008 when PDVSA formed three joint ventures (JVs) to combine the proposed Delta Caribe and Mariscal Sucre projects into a single, three-train project.
