Venezuela confirms parliamentary elections
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
President Nicolás Maduro and his ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) have long delayed announcing elections, knowing that the shortage of basic goods, high inflation, and diminished political rights could lead to his party losing a substantial number of seats in the unicameral National Assembly. However, after months of speculation that elections would be further postponed, the government formally announced the vote for 6 December 2015.
