Aluminium Bahrain BSC (Alba) metals summary

Report summary

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) is owned 69% by the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Bahrain sovereign wealth fund) 21% by Saudi Basic Industries Company (SABIC), and 10% by the general public. The Alba smelter at Knuff started primary production in 1971 with an initial capacity of 120ktpa. In 2013, the completion of the line 4 upgrade to AP36 effectively increased capacity to 912ktpa. In June 2015, the Board approved the Line six project, which includes a new 500ktpa potline and a 700MW power plant. This will add 400 ktpa capacity to the smelter site, as Alba indicated (in 2009) that lines one and two would be closed when line six was finished.
