Asanko - Obotan gold mine project
Report summary
The Asanko project was derived from the combination of two standalone (Obotan & Esaase) projects. The Obotan deposit will be developed as Phase 1, while the Esaase deposit will be developed as Phase 2. Both deposits will be mined by open-pit methods. Ore from Esaase will be transported 27km by overland conveyor to a carbon in leach plant at Obotan. Commercial production (Phase 1) was declared in April 2016 and board approval for Phase 2 expansion (5Mt/a expansion) was announced in November. In 2018, 223koz of gold was produced as the mill ramped up to full production. For 2020, full year gold production is estimated at ~235koz.
