Boddington Expansion copper mine
Report summary
Boddington is located 130 kilometres south-east of Perth, Western Australia, and originally operated from 1987 to 2001 as a large open-pit mine exploiting a gold oxide resource. The current Boddington Expansion project commenced in 2009 and produces both gold and copper. Conventional open-pit mining is carried out, with the South pit providing 70% of the ore feed and the balance from the North pit. Boddington operates a 40Mt/a ore processing plant that includes both a flotation circuit that produces a low grade copper concentrate, and a carbon in leach plant to process the tailings of the flotation circuit to a dore.
