This is a conventional open pit mine that treats its sulphide ore in a conventional 182kt/d ore concentrator and its leachable ore in an 175.5kt/a cathode SxEw circuit. However, since 2017 the mill was expected to operate above its nominal capacity. Buenavista also operates two moly plants with a capacity to produce 4.6kt Mo. According to the 2018 mining long term plan, Buenavista was planning to stop the old concentrator (82kt/d) by the end of 2035 and operating only the new 100-110kt/d concentrator. This will impact significantly on the copper production.
