Asset Report
Butler SDI steel plant
Report summary
The Butler mini-mill is one of the six EAF plants owned and operated by Steel Dynamics. The compact strip plant employs thin slab casting technology and has the capacity to produce 3 Mtpa of HRC. The output is typically sold directly to customers, while a portion is also supplied to the cold rolling complex and to other SDI plants for further downstream processing. Butler is slated to produce 30% more crude steel in 2022 in comparison with 2021 due to improved demand after the coronavirus crisis. Over the next few years, we expect Butler's output to remain steady at 4% above 2023 levels.
