Smelter operations were first reported at Cananea in 1868, the matte produced from local ores being shipped to England for further processing. Modern smelter operations commenced in 1899 with the formation of the Cananea Consolidated Copper Company to exploit the Cananea orebody. Initially the smelter operated blast furnaces for the treatment of 100t/d of concentrates and direct smelting ores. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating a number of granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry standard cash operating costs.
