Cerro Matoso
Report summary
The deposit has been known about for over 30 years and contains around 50 Mt grading 1.64% Ni in laterites. High-grading the open-pit mine, as well as process upgrading, should allow average feed grades to be increased to around 2% Ni for the first ten years of operation. Barro Alto commenced as a mining operation in 2005 supplying ore to Codemin. A feasibility study was completed in 2006 and Board approval granted for the construction of a smelter.
