Operated by Qinghai Salt Lake BYD Resource Development Co Ltd, Chaerhan 2 is a lithium brine project located in Qinghai province, China. Chaerhan Salt Lake is the largest dry salt lake in China and the third-largest in the world. This project was proposed by Qinghai Salt Lake Industrial in cooperation with BYD in 2016 with a capacity of 30 ktpy battery-grade lithium carbonate. The project construction is currently suspended but is expected to restart in 2022. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating several granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry-standard cash operating costs.
