Cobriza operates an underground mine and a conventional 9.1kt/d concentrator. Since the beginning of the mine, the concentrator was operated at a rate quite below its capacity due to lack of mine ore and lately (2016 and 2017) due to lack of capacity in the tailings dam. In 2018 Cobriza was operating at 4.0-4.2kt/d ore which represents only one circuit of the concentrator. The other circuit remains in stand by. Because of previous failures to privatise Cobriza and La Oroya complex together, the Peruvian government was looking at privatisation as separate entities. In October 2018 Cobriza was separated from La Oroya. The Privatisation was now expected for 2019.
