Report summary

The Codli group of surface iron ore mines (Codli) commenced operations in 1973. Codli is located in South Goa, approximately 50 kilometres south east of Panaji, Goa State, India. Codli is wholly owned by Vedanta Limited, which is majority owned by Vedanta Resources. Iron ore mining in the state of Goa recommenced after a two year ban although Vedanta are limited to producing 5.5 Mtpa (dry). Of this quota, Codli would be expected to produce 3.1 Mtpa (dry) but in 2016, we estimate that Codli exceeded this by 0.4 Mt. Vedanta are confident that their quota will be increased and we have assumed that they will maintain this higher level of production.
