El Brocal processed Pb-Zn ore from its Tajo Norte open pit mine and copper ore from the high arsenic Marcapunta Norte underground mine. There are two processing plants. Plant 1 with a capacity of 7kt/d and Plant 2 which was expanded from a capacity of 2.5-3kt/d to 11kt/d in Q4 2014. Full milling capacity of 18kt/d is expected for 4Q 2015. All concentrates are exported through the port of the El Callao. In 2021 El Brocal was facing medium/long term challenges at both the lead-zinc circuit and the copper circuit. The lead-zinc circuit faces limited amount of Pb-Zn reserves. The Tajo Norte pit was subsequently put under care and maintenance from Q4 2023. After this, the Pb-Zn plant (Plant 2) is to process only copper ore (actually becoming a copper mine) from the southern end of the pit and from Marcapunta.
