Copper webinar: Unpacking short-term volatility vs long-term fundamentals
Report summary
We hosted a webinar on 1 April 2020, with two sessions, one in Asia Pacific, and the other hosted for audiences in EMEARC and the Americas. In recent weeks, the reach of coronavirus has expanded rapidly, from key regions of copper demand, such as China and Europe, to regions of supply, including Latin America and central Africa. The threat to mine supply became clear in mid-March, when Peru announced a state of emergency, shortly followed by similar measures in Chile. During the webinar, our analysts discuss the copper supply response to lower prices and coronavirus. We also present the likely impact on economic activity and consumption.
