Copsa Mica zinc smelter
Report summary
Zinc smelting began at Copsa Mica in 1939, with the first ISF commissioning in 1966. However even with continuing increases in capacity, the overall operations at the site have been problematic, and in January 2009, a "temporary stop in production" was announced due to falling metal prices. This "temporary stop" is still ongoing, and for the purposes of this analysis it is assumed that due to the investment required, notably for environmental improvements, the smelter will not re-start.
