Report summary
Zinc production at Crotone commenced in 1928. However throughout its life the plant proved to be uneconomic to operate. There have been various ownership changes and plans for signifcant capital investment over the years but nothing came to fruition or stemmed the losses. Production at Crotone ceased in February 1999 and dismantling commenced in 2002. Crotone smelter is therefore treated in this analysis as closed.
