As we enter 2017, it appears that the global zinc smelting industry is on the brink of, but could well be in the midst of, a shortage of zinc concentrates. Key mines have closed and key players in the mining industry have put mines onto care and maintenance leading to a lack of global supply.  Already spot treatment charges have collapsed in China with a number of smelters announcing production cuts.
