The operation is comprised of an underground mine and a 2.8kt/d mill capacity producing zinc and lead concentrates. The mine is located 88 kilometres south-west of San Pedro Sula and 220 kilometres north-west of the capital city, Tegucigalpa. It has been in operation since 1948. Kirungu Corporation acquired the mine from Ascendant Resources in 2020. This followed on from Ascendant's (then Morumbi Resources) acquisition of the mine from Nyrstar, at a cost of US$500,000.
