Flin Flon zinc smelter
Report summary
The Flin Flon zinc smelter was commissioned in 1930 with a capacity of 20kt/a zinc to treat concentrates from the Flin Flon mine. By the 1980s capacity had reached 85kt/a based on roasting in wedge roasters followed by neutral and weak acid leaching. Leach residue was routed to the copper smelter for precious metals recovery to copper anode, and for zinc recovery by the fuming of reverbatory furnace slag.
