US Steel's Great Lakes plant located at Ecorse, Michigan, produces hot rolled coil, cold rolled coil, HDG and electro-galvanised products which are mostly sold to the automotive sector. Great Lakes has three blast furnaces (BFs) — "B2", "D4" and "A1" — but just "B2" was operational in part of 2020. In June 2020, US Steel announced it would temporarily suspend the furnace due to weak market conditions following the coronavirus crisis. At the time of writing, US Steel has not yet stressed its intent to bring any of Great Lakes' furnaces back online.
