Harita nickel (PT Macika Mineral Industri)
Report summary
The Harita Group's smelter project, Megah Surya Pertiwi in Indonesia is planning to utilise Rotary Kiln Submerged Arc Furnace (RK-SAF) technology to produce 190kt of ferronickel per year. The operation is expected to consist of three operating lines requiring 120MW of power. In June 2015 the Harita Group held a 'groundbreaking' ceremony and estimated that construction of the smelter would take place over a two year period at a cost of around US$320 million. On October 9, 2016, production commenced at the NPI RKEF operation in North Maluka, Indonesia. The smelter capacity is 190kt/a (gross) and NPI is expected to grade around 10-12% Ni. Capital costs were updated and estimated at approximately US$300 million.
