Report summary

The smelter was commissioned in 1980 with a capacity of 35kt/a zinc (tankhouse-limited) and 52kt/a sulphuric acid at a cost of US$63M, location being chosen through fiscal incentives.  Ownership was by a private company, Companhia Paraibuna de Metais (CPM).  In 1986 a US$15M expansion increased capacity to 49kt/a zinc and rectified the tankhouse limitation, and the introduction of oxygen on the roaster in 1987 and the installation of a liquid sulphur dioxide plant increased capacity to...
