We forecast a widening of the iron ore quality differentials driven by an increasing preference for high-grade ore. The continued focus on environmental considerations and increasing decarbonisation efforts in the steel industry will drive mills to maximise the usage of superior quality feedstock. In this Insight, we look at iron ore quality differentials historically by comparing the economics of a 58/65% Fe fines blend vs the 62% Fe fines price. This works as a proxy for an iron ore blend arbitrage calculation.
