Kamioka zinc smelter

The Kamioka smelter in Japan uses roast, leach electrowin technology to make slab zinc. The leach residues are treated using the Goethite process with residue being stored in redundant mine workings. The current capacity is 68kt/a of slab zinc and there are no plans to increase this. The impending closure of the Century zinc mine could well impact operations at the smelter.
