Koira iron ore mine

Report summary

Koira is an open pit mine with an annual production capacity of 4 million tonnes. It is located 461 kilometres north-west of Paradip port, in the Sundergarh district of Odisha. Koira is wholly owned by Essel Mining, a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group. Among all of Essel Mining's operations, Koira has seen the least amount of disruptions in the last three years, but at much reduced rates. Koira's production has been capped by the Odisha Government at 13 Mtpa in order to control traffic congestion at Paradeep Port but an environmental clearance limit of just 4 Mtpa (ROM) therefore restricting any further expansion for the time being.
