Minntac iron ore mine

Report summary

Minntac is a surface mine owned and operated by US Steel located in Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range, near the city Mountain Iron. The mine is the largest iron ore operation in the US, producing pellets to US Steel's mills. The company is in the process of installing low NOx burners on its furnaces located at Minntac. This came after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a Federal Implementation Plan (FIP) establishing emission limits and the use of low NOx reduction technology on indurating furnaces located in Minnesota.
