Asset Report
Nimba (Yekepa) iron ore mine
Report summary
Nimba (Yekepa) is ArcelorMittal's Liberia operations. Its four deposits are approximately 111 kilometres north-east of the capital Monrovia. ArcelorMittal has been mining DSO at Yekepa since 2011 and rails its product 250 km to the port at Buchanan. In April 2021 ArcelorMittal announced a decision to progress with the proposed Phase 2 expansion. This will include construction of an additional shiploader at Port Buchanan and a concentrator to process the lower grade ore, which will increase production to 15 Mtpa. As a brownfield expansion, ArcelorMittal believes construction can be completed by 2024. Negotiations between AM and GoL have stalled following the Lower House's rejection of the amended MDA, with AM likely to lose preferential access to the railway linking Yekepa to Port of Buchanan
