A serious engineering study was started in 1998 for the construction of a new IMMSA smelter in Mexico. The location chosen for the studied project was Nueva Rosita in Coahuila province. It appeared likely that Sherritt Gordon (now Sherritt International Corporation) pressure leaching would be used to treat concentrates, and tests were undertaken in Canada. In particular a process was required that could treat high copper domestic concentrates with a good zinc recovery (96.5% or better). ...
