Peculiar Knob iron ore mine
Report summary
Peak Iron Mines, a privately held company, purchased the Peculiar Knob mine in July 2019 after it's previous owner, Arrium Mining, was forced into administration. Production recommenced in late 2020 and the mine is now producing a 63% Fe DSO product and is expected to produce 1.5 Mtpa for 2 more years. Peculiar Knob is located approximately 90 kilometres from Coober Pedy and 600 kilometres north of Whyalla in South Australia. High grade hematite ore is extracted via conventional open cut methods using contractors. The ore is railed 600 km to the port at Whyalla for export.
